Draw keeps LSA in second place

London South Africa RFC (LSA) took to the field at their homeground, Imber Court, on Saturday with a clear determination to put in a strong performance against London Exiles, who are placed just below them in the Surrey One League. The team had worked hard on improving their structure and game plan during the week, and their confidence in coming onto the field showed as they scored two early tries. This gave them a lead of 10-0 at half-time. LSA’s early confidence soon turned to panic as the Exiles increased the pressure and starting piling on the points. Mistakes crept into LSA’s game, which was also compounded by a lack of discipline. LSA battled to respond, with some fatigue setting in, making it difficult for the side to get back into form. Exiles ran in three second tries to LSA’s one. The final result a 17-17 draw. Although the players were clearly disappointed afterwards, coach Bob Crooks maintained a positive perspective on how they have progressed from the beginning of the year. “With perseverance, trust and more training, we will continue to improve our communication, skills and game plan. We haven’t been together long, and soon it will just click into place. The guys shouldn’t be too disappointed, they have a lot of drive and it won’t be long before they start really fulfilling their potential.” Next week, LSA’s Surrey XV play Battersea Ironsides, while the LSA Shield XV have a bye.  All supporters are welcome to attend the Surrey match.

Man of the match was Boka (Christian van Rooyen) for his all out commitment during the game.
