Another big score for LSA’s super fifteen

10th February 2007

By Nicky Prins

London South Africa RFC (LSA) put on an impressive performance on Saturday in their Surrey Cup game against Warlingham, resulting in a well-deserved 43-12 win. The game was expected to be a tough one, with Warlingham sitting in third place in a league above them. But the game was also expected to be a good indication of how far LSA has come, and whether it can match the standard of London Division Four, into which the club is hoping to be promoted at the end of the season. The game did prove intense and physical, and Warlingham clocked up two tries in the first twenty minutes, to lead 12-0. But LSA were able to absorb the pressure and maintain their confidence and enthusiasm. “We just stuck to our game plan and kept it simple”, noted coach Bob Crooks, “and proved that we were certainly able to compete at this level”. Warlingham struggled under the pressure, while LSA clearly dominated the game, clocking up a total of 43 points. LSA currently sit in second place in Surrey Division One, just behind Old Wellingtonians, but ahead of London Exiles due to points difference. To gain promotion it will be critical that they maintain their points difference—and with two consecutive big wins under their belt, LSA are hungry to inflict a few more high scores in their remaining games.
