LSA cruise to victory.........

9th February 2008

By Matt Aristizabal

After managing a great win the last time these two sides met, London South Africa hoped to start the season’s run-in with another as they travelled to Camberley. Things started brightly as Malcolm Mirfin racked up the first score in the third minute. Gary Johnston got his first for the day after a quarter of an hour, which allowed Matt Fendick to get on the scoresheet with the conversion. Sauer then got in on the act mid-way though the half and eight minutes later Anton Kriel got his first. Fendick added two more with his conversion, and in truth the lead should have been even greater had it not been for spurned chances and dropped balls. LSA may not have been taking all their opportunities but they were still adding points to the board with regularity as half-back Vaughan Gilson got in on the act. Johnston got his second in injury time as the half finished with the Warriors in an unassailable position.

LSA didn’t rest on their laurels, and carried on where they left off with Anton Kriel getting another eight minutes in, Fendick with the extras. Christian Van Rooyen got the visitors’ final score of the game on thirteen minutes and brought up the half century. With such a big lead head coach Bob Crooks rang the changes as he was able to give his subs plenty of game time. The substitutions understandably meant that the team lost some of its fluidity, and having two men dismissed at the close allowed Camberley to have their best spell of the game. LSA eventually lost their chance to notch up a whitewash as the home side got one back, but it was a commanding 51-5 win. Despite not being at their clinical best, the size of the win shows the Warriors are re-finding their free scoring form at the right time of the season as they push for promotion.
