LSA finish on a high...........

London South Africa lined up against Old Pauline in their last game of 2007 and were looking to end the year on a high note. After a good period of early pressure Malcolm Mirfin opened the scoring in the seventh minute, which Matt Fendick converted to make it 7-0. Old Pauline went on the attack but good defence kept them out, and LSA always looked a danger on the counter-attack. The game went back and forth with both teams playing well, but the final ball wasn’t there for either side as the cold began to take its toll. Christian Van Rooyen and Malcolm Mirfin both went down injured, the former eventually having to leave the field for good. The half finished with Old Pauline on the attack, but the hosts couldn’t find a way through as the break arrived.
The Warriors came out stronger in the second half, and looked much better as a well practiced move allowed Mirfin to score, Fendick’s conversion doubling their lead. LSA kept the pressure on, and Ben Bougas would have increased the lead if not for a forward pass. Scott Johnston got on the scoresheet moments later when he combined with Gareth Williams on the overlap, Fendick’s conversion making it 21-0. The game was becoming all one way, but the chances weren’t being taken until with a few minutes left Bougas went over and Fendick kept his 100% kicking record with the extras. Old Pauline had the last word of the game however when their centre scored but there was no more significant action as it finished 28-5. Tiaan Visser was this week’s KWV Wines Man of the Match for his excellent all round performance.
The league now embarks on a three week festive break and London South Africa will re-start their campaign on the 5th of January away at Gosport & Fareham, with the Shield VX are at home against Rosslyn Park Development.
