LSA dominate as title race hots up.......

1st March 2008

By Matt Aristizabal

After a club record 118-0 win earlier on in the season, hopes were high for London South Africa in the return leg against Farnham. The visiting exiles looked to maintain their superb recent form, and began strongly with two Malcolm Mirfin scores sandwiching a Nick Osman try- the first coming in under a minute. Matt Fendick’s conversion meant that after 11 minutes LSA were on their way to an unassailable lead at 17-0. The half-back partnership of Fendick and Vaughan Gilson ran the show from then on, Gilson getting his first for Fendick to convert in the 24th minute. Fendick then scored and converted his own try in the 40th minute, and there was time for Gilson to add another in injury time. With Fendick getting the extras, the visitors were able to go in at the break 38 points to the good.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Trevor Grundeligh ensured there was no resting on any laurels when he went over three minutes after the kick off. Cyril Sauer added his name to the scoresheet two minutes later, and Farnham were on the ropes. Anton Kriel then weighed in with one of his own- taking the points over the half-century mark- and the floodgates opened. Christian van Rooyen went over in the 25th minute, and Andre Retief went over two minutes later. Osman got his pair after another two minutes, and Grundelingh and Ben Bougas scored two more in the following four minutes. With Fendick converting them all, LSA were only two tries away from the century mark with seven minutes to go. However, it was not to be as whilst Mirfin got another it was too late to add any more as it eventually finished up 95-0.
